how does inspiration move through you?

“spirit lives and speaks through you when you make something for the love of it – and at the end of the day, love is all there is.”

katie chirgotis, eothen

you inspire us. we’re here to inspire you.

this project comes from a place of wanting to illuminate the abundant creativity, talent, and magic this industry harbors, and to feed our curiosity in getting to know our unique community of humans and artists, intuitively, guided by questions involving the synergy between mind, body, and soul – something we all need to live a balanced, full, creative life.

while our main squeeze is commercial and editorial work, we are constantly in awe of the incredible people we get to meet and work with here – their craft, their kindness, their stamina – so to be able to visually hold space to inspire and be inspired, foster a deeper connection, and open up the conversation far beyond small talk, is a total dream.

this is an ever evolving sphere; we’re so excited to see it grow. thank you for being here.

how does inspiration move through you?

inspiration moves in a way i can view. like a film – with a whir, the machine kicks up and hazy, analog images flash to life. much is dusky, muted yellow and soft around the edges – concepts or theories coming into form but not quite real; until i can next use my hands to make them, or bring pen to paper.

how do you embody your art?

here’s the secret about being a florist; flowers do the work for you. they are a natural, beautiful, reactive, ALIVE medium. it is my job to know how they will react, what they will require, how their cells will age, how long i have with them. and how can i best position them to conjure a feeling or a memory in the person who observes them.

what lights you up, inside and out?

to make something for another person – to do it with joy, intention, positivity and goodwill. whether or not you know you’ll get the same in exchange or return? that is goddess’s work. doesn’t matter your religion or creed. spirit lives and speaks through you when you make something for the love of it – and at the end of the day, love is all there is.

how do you embody your art?

“i truly think the best artists are ones that are inseparable from their art.  i am constantly looking at the world as something that needs to be documented, frozen in time for our grandchildren to see.”

how does inspiration move through you?

lately, like an unexpected storm. it happens when i find myself moved by things, people, events, art forms that I normally wouldn’t have predicted. for this reason, i don’t often seek it out anymore, i just try to keep my heart and mind wide open so i’m there to receive it. this method keeps me both inspired regularly, and calm in my center.

how do you embody your art?

i truly think the best artists are ones that are inseparable from their art. i am constantly looking at the world as something that needs to be documented, frozen in time for our grandchildren to see. from the most love-filled day in a couple’s life, to my father’s weathered hands working on a car, to trees, oceans, and mountains of this beautiful planet. nothing is safe from change, and honest photographs bring us perspective in our daily lives.

what lights you up, inside and out?

i truly live for moments when nature takes the breath out of me and leaves me in a state of awe. usually best seen from the seat of a motorcycle! i’m also deeply moved by familial love, and often find myself moved to tears by family relationships that aren’t even my own.

how does inspiration move through you?

inspiration for me is like a slow cooker. it takes time and seasoning and coming back to over and over again until it’s just right and delicious. i try to give it the time and attention it needs. i read somewhere once that creation and judgement are in separate parts of the brain, and you neurologically can’t do both at once. i try to respect that and just let if flow through me. but most importantly, when inspiration visits me, i will always put down whatever i am busy doing, and i’ll dance with her. she is an honored guest.

how do you embody your art?

i feel really fortunate to have built a brand on what personally resonates with me, so the line between bryr and me is sometimes pretty blurred and i love that. bryr has grown to mean more to me than just clogs. it’s about being natural, comfortable with yourself and in your own skin, and in harmony with your world.

what lights you up, inside and out?

if i had to name a few things; growing personally, learning new things, getting out of my comfort zone and taking on challenges. collaborating with incredible individuals every day. the moment i design something new. getting out of the city with my wife and our family. going on hikes. cooking and eating amazing food. hearing people in our shop delight over our clogs and knowing they feel welcome and seen in the space we have built for them.
